The World's Worst Pop Songs
December 10th 2009 06:55
When the word 'classic' is bandied about in music circles - one generally conjures imagery associated with - well classics - music which transcends the ages, music which defies trends, defies the generation change - and for the sake of this post - defies logic.
Members of the jury - I present to you just a few of the worst pop songs ever allowed to enter our lives - according to moi!
Let me kick things off with the 'classic' “I’m Too Sexy” from 1992 by RIGHT SAID FRED - is there anything even vaguely redeeming about this song? If there is - it escapes me.
Then there's Charlene's “I’ve Never Been to Me” - how could you forget that all-time sappy, schmaltzy song?
Or how about R.E.M's “Shiny Happy People” 1991
- What were they thinking?
Hold the phone - how could I forget AQUA and “Barbie Girl” 1997
Warning Will Robinson - Scandi-wegian pedo-pop alert!
And if you think global warming and climate change has been the biggest thing to threaten points north of the equator how about EUROPE's “The Final Countdown” from 1987.
And for those old enough to remember - but unfortunately not so old that they can't forget - there's Bobby Goldsboro “Honey” “See the tree, how big it’s grown...” ouch!
Throw in Baha Men “Who Let the Dogs Out”, Terry Jecks, “Seasons in the Sun”, “Mambo #5”
“Boom, Boom, Boom (Let’s Go Back to my Room)” and the quinessential CÉLINE DION
“My Heart Will Go On” 1998 and you've at least got the tip of one monsterous iceberg.
Voting is now open folks . . .
