The Top 10 Albums from the 80s
July 5th 2010 02:05
How interested was I when I chanced upon Rolling Stones list of the Top 100 albums from the 80s over the weekend.
To be completely honest, I was a little gobsmacked when I scrolled to the top of the list to find that Tracy Chapman's self titled album Tracy Chapman (1988) managed to crack the number 10 spot just behind Richard & Linda Thompson's Shoot Out the Lights (1982).
The top eight were mix of the predicable - but their final resting places were anything but - with Paul Simon finishing ahead of Michael Jackson's Thriller and Bruce Springteen languishing behind Prince.
I was pleasantly (if not a little gobsmacked) that Midnight Oils Diesel and Dust also managed a place in the Top 15 ahead of the Police and the classic Synchronicity from (1983).
Surprises for mine were AC/DC's Back in Black (1980) which only managed 27 and the Double Fantasy album (1980) which came in at 29 along with Tattoo You from the Stones well into the 30's.
There were certainly a few other notables which despite their chart successes which failed to reach any great heights as part of the list including Van Halen's 1984, David Bowie's Let's Dance and John Cougar Melancamp's Scarecrow and a few which simply didn't get a guernsey at all.
